Don't expect tragic circumstances or a calming down of the schizophrenic country punks on the new record. The third album of the wild party Povodí Ohře is titled “Místo odpočinku” (i.e. Place of Rest) and the band offers a conceptual record again. The dense, raw punkʼnʼroll tracks, spiced up with alternative country, were given a dark extension in the form of a storyline from the Svatos rocks. The band from West Bohemia mixes punk ingredients into a chanson-like mood of minimalism, alternating emotionality with sonic brutality.
The band Povodí Ohře created a concept album for the second time in a row. "Lyrically, “Místo odpočinku” is a concept album based on F.E. Devrient's libretto for the romantic opera ‘Hans Heiling’ from 1833," says the band's frontman Sisi, adding more information: "This is a unique foreign work based on the ancient tale of Jan Svatoš (Hans Heiling) set in the charming landscape of the Svatos Rocks (a petrified wedding procession) on the Ohře River. Devrient himself, at that time an opera star gradually losing his voice, writes a bespoke libretto. His work is based on a greatly distorted and unrecognizably transformed legend from the pen of Ch. H. Spiess. And the album “Místo odpočinku” follows in this spirit."
Moreover, Povodí Ohře made sure that the tracks would stand up individually. And it worked perfectly, as documented by the success of the single Blud (i.e. Delusion). The songs range in genre from rock'n'roll punk to ballads, but the band's signature is easily recognizable in every moment of the recording.
The wild concerts of Povodí Ohře are famous, and the new album completes the comprehensive picture of this exceptional band on the Czech music scene.
