Všechno nejlepší
ABOUT
Singer-songwriter Jakub Čermák, performing as Cermaque, comes with a record about the possibilities and forms of love in a crumbling world. He recorded eleven songs on his eleventh studio album "Všechno nejlepší" (i.e. All The Best) together with the band that
has been around him for the last four years. The album follows on the previous EP Zastávka v čase (i.e. A Stop In Time), or the CD Teorie dospělosti (i.e. Theory of Adulthood), but the intimate motifs here are permeated and multiplied by the multi-layered band arrangement.
"After every concert, I heard: 'Jakub, on which record are you playing in this line-up?' They are great!' And I had to answer apologetically over and over again: 'None,'" describes Čermák the motivation for creating the album. "When our drummer Martin announced in the
winter that he got a job in New York and that we would have to let the band hibernate for a while, we decided to record the existing band synergy at least on a short EP in the JáMOR studio with the legendary master of sound and friend Ondra Ježek," he continues.
But the waiting for visas dragged on, the recording mornings increased - and so did the new songs, which reflected the escalating war situation in Europe. So, in the end, another full album was created, which, thanks to the support of Donio.cz contributors, is also released
on colourful vinyl. "Our indomitable publisher Milan Páleš from Indies Scope caught me a year ago at the celebration of his 60th birthday at the festival Hradecký slunovrat, saying: 'Jakub, you're still
so young, make the next album about love!' I retorted something, because maybe I consider love to be the basic driving force and the only universal common to the world in front of the
curtain and behind it, but as far as love relationships are concerned, I'm more of a macerated sausage," laughs Čermák. "But when we were mixing the record in summer, I
was surprised to find that the word love appeared in almost all the songs that made it onto the album. It's as if not only the musical skill of my virtuoso musician companions and their
mutual kvass, tested on more than one stage, but also the simple fact that we like each other, have imprinted themselves on it."
The album Všechno nejlepší was recorded by Jakub Čermák together with his friends and musical colleagues Martin Barinc, Julie Goetzová, Zuzana Barincová and guest Ondřej
Ježek who, in addition to sound supervision, also participated in the album as a producer.
