Martina Trchová

Martina Trchová is a Czech singer-songwriter, guitarist, author of distinctive songs, but also an artist.

She has been appearing on Czech stages since 2001 and has four albums to her credit - Čerstvě natřeno (2005), Takhle ve mně vyjou vlci (2010), Holobyt (2016), which won the Anděl Award in the Folk and Country category, and her latest album 90 % štěstí (2024), which was created in collaboration with Martin Kyšperský.

From 2009 to 2022 she performed with the band Martina Trchová & Trio. They recorded an hour-long concert in this line-up for ČT Art (i.e. Czech Art TV) as part of the Folk Factory show (2017). She has now returned to solo performance, this time with a looper, and her performances are all the more urgent and raw. In 2023, documentary filmmaker Dagmar Smržová chose her for her documentary series Muzikantky (i.e. The Musicians).

Her work boldly crosses genres, from blues, through folk, jazz, to indie-pop. In her singing, she moves between delicacy and vigor with an almost hip-hop cadence, and in her lyrics she can be harshly self-questioning, but also playful and funny. As a singer, she has performed with guitarist Adam Kubát for 13 years with songs by Zuzana Navarová, she has also featured on albums by Jan Burian (Dívčí válka), Martin Kyšperský (Vlakem), the band Květy (Lorenzovi hoši) and lent her lyrics to the album Sentimentální Němec by the band Jablkoň.
