For four years, singer, composer, lyricist and guitarist Martina Trchová has been preparing material for her fourth album, which she named after a verse of one of her songs 90 % štěstí (i.e. 90 % Happiness). In her lyrics, she captures the feelings associated with double motherhood and family losses, but she also notices the details of everyday city life. The recording contains 11 original songs and, in addition to the CD, will also be available on vinyl from the 11th of October 2024.
The record, 90 % štěstí was recorded in collaboration with producer and musician Martin Kyšperský (Květy), who invited jazz drummer Martin Novák, cellist Alžběta Rolečková and trumpeter Christoffer Strandh.
"Martin and I already recorded the duet Nové otazníky in 2020 and working on it was so inspiring and at the same time so natural to me that the choice of him as the arranger and producer of the whole album was quite clear and intuitive for me. He was also a great support and workhorse for me the whole time during the period around childbirth when my head was full of different thoughts." The result is eleven colorful songs, in which Martina Trchová once again presents herself not only as a great singer of quiet strength and tenderness, but also as an author with a flair for unusual melodies.
Martina Trchová took her time with her new record, “90 % Happiness”, and is being released eight years after Holobyt, which won Anděl Awards. "Those eight years brought many changes to my life in the form of moving to Brno, disbanding my Prague band and the arrival of two daughters. I needed time to experience everything, to imprint it into my songs and at the same time I wanted to come up with a slightly different sound than what my listeners were used to. Various electronic sounds have infiltrated the songs and the themes have changed a lot since the last album. “90 % Happiness” is an intimate album inspired by motherhood, but also by family losses, and unlike the previous album full of searching, it's more about finding."
The album release party will be in Kabinet Múz in Brno, CR (November 11, 2024) and in Čítárna Unijazzu in Prague, CR (November 13). A number of guests will be playing with Martina at the launch - besides Martin Kyšperský, other members of the band Květy (Jiří Habarta, Ondřej Kyas), drummer Martin Novák, multi-instrumentalist Bharata Rajnošek or Martina's long-time bandmate, singer-songwriter Prune (Lucie Krpalová). In Brno, the godmother of the album will be the composer and cellist Dorota Barová, and in Prague the writer, poet and rapper Anna Beata Háblová.
