(born December 3, 1948, Prague) is a Czech rock violinist best known for his work with the bands Etc..., Framus 5, and Kukulín.
From 1964 to 1968, he studied violin at the Prague Conservatory; he then played bass guitar and later violin in the band Reciprocity. From 1975 until Vladimír Mišík was banned from performing in 1982, he played in Etc...; from 1983, he played in Luboš Andršt’s Blues Band.
In 1984, he joined Michal Prokop’s band Framus 5 and had a significant influence on the album Kolej Yesterday. However, Etc... was then revived, and Jan Hrubý returned to Mišík, though he stayed there only a year and a half before reappearing in Framus. Since 1987, he has also been playing with Michal Prokop and Luboš Andršt in an acoustic trio (formerly known as Nu-Trio); he also played in Čunderground (ČDG) with Vladimír Merta, collaborated with Dagmar Andrtová-Voňková, and recorded studio tracks for many bands (Jazz Q, Marsyas, C & K Vocal, Jiří Brabec’s Country Beat; Jan Spálený, Zuzana Homolová, Hana Hegerová).
