Kvietah presents a video for the title track Rozkousanej svět, which captures one of the central themes of her new album. Directed by Jakub Čermák, it follows Diviška Rysová, a friend of the singer who wrote most of the song's lyrics. She arrives in Berlin with a handheld camera and meets Kvietah, who appears as a busker. A fictional relationship story unfolds alongside raw footage of the city, captured with the deliberately unpolished aesthetic of an old camera.
The two women gradually grow closer. Flashbacks to Diviška’s dysfunctional relationship with a man interrupt the Berlin storyline. The arguments and tension are not intended to portray violence, but rather the pain and dysfunction of the relationship. “Diviška and I are used to travelling a lot, so we wanted to capture something of the atmosphere between us, too. And Berlin is a city that has everything: clubs, hipster cafés and lots of people in the streets. It’s a kind of concentrated snapshot of this fragmented world,” Kvietah explains.
Jakub Čermák was responsible for the direction, cinematography, editing and post-production. Alongside Diviška Rysová and Magdalena Fendrychová, the video also features the band’s guitarist, Honza Skorunka.
The song grew out of a poem Kvietah found among Diviška’s writings and immediately set to music, without knowing at the time who had written it. Each of them interprets the lyrics a little differently. Alongside the complexity of relationships, Kvietah sees them as reflecting the fractured state of the world and how it becomes part of us. The chorus goes: “This fragmented world we’ve given ourselves twists in our guts.”
Rozkousanej svět was released on 4 September by Indies Scope as Kvietah’s third studio album. Personal themes intersect with wider social crises, from housing to armed conflicts. The album was produced and mixed by Honza Skorunka, with mastering by Michal “Amák” Šťastný.
