Actress and singer Tereza Richtrová releases a new single Karpatská from her upcoming debut album Místa Krajiny. One of its key tracks was written almost twenty years ago and remained in a drawer for a long time. After years of waiting it now receives its final form and becomes one of the central moments of the album.

The song returns to the landscape of the Moravské Kopanice region, specifically to Žítková, long before it became a literary phenomenon. A harsh and wildly beautiful land where the order of life is firmly bound to nature and where people speak little and rarely cry. It was there that Tereza Richtrová experienced her first love and a period when she seriously considered leaving her studies and previous direction behind and moving to a hill to a house with goats.

The impulse to write this song was the landscape of Moravské Kopanice, specifically the village of Žítková, which at that time could not have imagined its current fame. A place full of magic where the order of life was closely connected to the cycle of nature, even in the twenty-first century, and where life was lived to the bone. A harsh and wildly beautiful region where my first love lived, she says.

The lyrics have remained almost unchanged. I often heard songwriters say that with distance, they cannot stand behind their old lyrics. That it is no longer their theme. I stand behind this one even after twenty years. The pain is now only an echo; everything has been forgiven, but the landscape has remained within me.

According to her, the melody was etched under the skin, yet it reached its final form only during work on the album, paradoxically amid the clattering joy of carnival festivities. Karpatská connects intimate experience with images of the landscape, white blackthorn blossoms, a spring, a bare foot on the stones of a stream, and the awareness that every tear that falls to the ground makes a seed sprout.

Místa/Krajiny

The album Místa Krajiny is the authorial debut of Tereza Richtrová. The oldest and the newest lyrics on it are separated by twenty years. The songs are united by the theme of place as a space of memory and relationships, southern Moravia, the Dyje River, Pálava, Haná, and Prague Libeň. People are present in the lyrics only seemingly; each song is connected to a specific experience and specific individuals who remain unnamed.
