Provocatively shifting the boundaries of pop, Nèro Scartch has come out with the uncompromising single Turn Me On.
Jakub Svoboda alias Nèro Scartch is a young Czech producer and multi-instrumentalist who, besides with his successful group Mydy Rabycad, excels on the solo circuit. Coming after his rock debut album Piece Of My Life, this time we get treated to electronica at a minimalistic level.
The first single foreshadows the road the young artist is paving, and presents itself in an unmistakably determined way.
“I’d like to release more singles and EPs as an ongoing, up-to-date musical diary. To write about the current topics of my life, without genre or boundaries,“ Nèro explains.
“Each of the new songs is quite a shift in style and that‘s another reason why I want to make singles and not an album. Also, my intensive work with Mydy Rabycad keeps me too busy to think about whole albums. So I will record individual songs and release them as such.“ That he plans to release another song this winter, and then a new release every three months or so, gives us something original to keep looking forward to.
The release of the single comes with a music video that can be described, at the very least, as decadent. It builds on the work of the past, for which the connecting element was a dark, shadowy atmosphere, "...Unlike the previous clip, the new one is not so dark and negative. This one illustrates a particular period of irresistible desire, promiscuity, and gluttony. The song and the clip are quite romantic matters for me. It's the courting of women and the feminine body. But in a burning, animalistic way. They say that each band should have their "music to make love to”. This is more like “to ravish to”.
Working with Mydy Rabycad occupies most of Nèro’s time, but the solo project does not indicate a sidetrack. "Songs for Mydy are often a creative, group process, that's why they are so unique. The Nèro Scartch project is, for me, the outcry of my worries, pain, pleasures and desires, without any boundaries. Often it has a therapeutic effect for me. I just write what comes out of me, often transforming negative feelings into something I can be happy about. The matter often closes when the song is complete and then I don’t have to deal with it anymore, even though it's often outside of my comfort zone. But that's what lures me so much."
