Václav Harnoš

On his father side, he is half-Slovak and he began interested in folklore in his twenties as a dancer of Prespolan ensemble from Veselí, but he became famous for his voice: his high, resonant and piercing (so-called heroic) tenor can’t be missed, it’s unmistakable. The legendary bandmaster Slávek Volavý found him because of his voice and in 1954 he invited him to join the band. With the DB of Slávek Volavý he later performed until it came to its end in 1993 and was winning popular festival competitions of folk singers (including in 1964 in Strážnice and in Východná, in 1965 at the Ethnographic Festival in Poprad). Together with Volavý he also recorded songs from Strážnice Dolňácko region in Brno Radio. As a guest, he cooperated with many dulcimer bands (DB of Michal Milták from Strážnice, DB of Mirek Menšík, DB Olšava from Uherský Brod, DB of Jožka Kubík from Horňácko region, DB of Martin Hrbáč, the Podlužan ensemble from Břeclav, DB of Pavel Borovička from Rohatec and until now, with the DB Danaj from Strážnice). He has recorded albums since mid 70s of the 20th century, his own singer’s profile came much later; for his seventieth birthday he released a retrospective album (together with Jan Gajda Sr.) called Ve Strážnici néni pána (Danaj, 2000) and two years later the separate CD with the Dulcimer Band Strážničan Co sem sa k vám nachodil (Tonstudio Rajchman, 2002).
